The Little Women Book: Games, Recipes, Crafts, and Other Homemade Pleasures
Published in Hardcover by Random House (Merchandising) (October, 1995)
Average review score:

Delightful book, bursting with ideasAs a tremendous fan of Louisa May Alcott's works, especially Little Women, I enjoy reading anything related to the novel. Ms. Penner's book contains ideas on crafts, hairstyles, edible treats, games, celebrations, and more, all corresponding to the March sisters' experiences. Although aimed at girls in the 8-12 age range, the book will appeal to anyone young at heart. It is charmingly accented throughout with watercolor illustrations. This book would make a wonderful gift for any girl who loves Little Women and desires to live as the March sisters did.

Lonely Planet Boston: Condensed (Lonely Planet Condensed Guides)
Published in Paperback by Lonely Planet (April, 2001)
Average review score:

Perfect for First Timers and Short StaysWe would have never made it in Boston without this little book! The maps alone, especially the subway map, were worth well over the price of the book. We took the book everywhere we went and had a blast. It offers great advice about what to see, what not to see, places to shop, places to stay, places to eat, and anything else you can imagine. I also liked that it gave information on day trips to surrounding areas. I would recomend this book to anyone visiting Boston for the first time. We were there for two days and were able to see everything we wanted to see!!

The Loving Room
Published in Paperback by iUniverse.com (March, 2001)
Average review score:

More, More...This book is a great read, and a useful one for those of use who frequent Inns and B&Bs and think we would like to run one day. It is a cautionary tale, with an appropriate measure of pathos and humor, and it is well-written by a first-time author. I hope he has another book in him, but if he doesn't, he has done himself and his readers a great service.

Maine
Published in Digital by Publications Unbound ()

The first touring guide I've ever read that actually works!Usually these types of books are about as fun to read as the phonebook; a maze of cookbook directions and boring narrative. Mountain Bike! Maine is an effective guide to riding which will please anyone who loves to ride and wants to explore the diverse trails of Maine. The authors have thoroughly researched each ride and done a great job of cutting away the fat and leaving in the spice. Each trail description includes helpful information and history on the area in addition to accurate directions. I've lived in Maine for 20 years and practically every ride was new to me. From gearhead to mudbuster and nature lover to history buff, I recommend this guide as a great way to put some fun into your riding!

Maine Fishing Depth Maps Lakes & Ponds by County
Published in Paperback by DeLorme Publishing (November, 2002)
Average review score:

A Must have for serious anglersDeLorme has come out with a great new publication that is a must have for serious anglers. The 215 page, loose-ring book contains more than 1,700 fishing depth maps of Maine lakes and ponds by counties. There is also stocking information, fish species of each body of water, and location coordinates. This book is long overdue, and is remarkably priced. In fact, if you bought all of these maps from the Fish and Wildlife folks, one map at a time, the price would be prohibitive

The information it provides truly reflects its title.Great book. I have been traveling to Maine for vacations for years, and this guide still provided me with great new travel tips for areas I thought I knew well. I am returning to Maine again this summer, and will be using this book as my primary reference.

Maine on My Mind
Published in Hardcover by Falcon Publishing Company (September, 1900)
Average review score:

Maybe the best-ever depiction of the entire State of Maine! Not only does this book contain some incredibly well composed and technically stunning photos of the soul of Maine, they are are complimented by poignant and insightful quotes giving "mindsight" views of the psyche of Maine. I found only two minor flaws - it otherwise does a much better job of representing Maine as much more than just "a rock-bound (Southern) coast" than any book of the same genre that I can recall!

The Maine Woods
Published in Paperback by HarperCollins (paper) (May, 1987)
Average review score:

A day by day look at Thoreau"Oct. 22nd, 1837. 'What are you doing now?' he asked, 'Do you keep a journal?'-- So I make my first entry today."
Thus begins Thoreau's Journal, made up of more then two million words and covering about twenty-five years of his life. No other work of Thoreau's better exhibits his discipline as a writer and his devotion to the natural world. In the Journal can be found the fragmented foundations of masterpieces such as Walden, A Week on the Concord and Merrimack Rivers, The Maine Woods, and Cape Cod. But what is perhaps more interesting to a reader of Thoreau's Journal are his thoughts and insights on topics such as friendship, love, religion, nature, bravery, heroism, war, slavery, the art of writing, and, most important to Thoreau, the art of living. Anyone with any interest in Thoreau will find his Journal to be an invaluable aid in understanding and following the life of one of America's most profound prose writers
